Walking the Glen (7)

Subtle difference, I assume from a shutter speed change.

It has changed the way I view the pool, I think it de-emphasises the pool.

No, a change in the weather....oh, here comes the rain again...

LoL. Wait 5 minutes............

same tripod holes...a slight increase in wind speed causing ripples...wondering why Colin has done this???reminds me of the spot the difference games in the newspaper...am I supposed to find a rabbit behind a rock???try not to be so literal...a different connection with the sky and tops of trees...or doesn't he think my scroll wheel finger gets enough exercise???

and who put that dull curtain inbetween all of these colour photos?

The two are a lesson in editing to me, subtle changes over time at the same place; which works best for you?

For me, I like the first version, with the calm reflected sky and the peaceful sense I have from viewing it.

The vibrating pool of water in this photograph almost irrates me, and perhaps the more realist photo. It is not too perfect.

The main difference seems to be the reflection in the pool -- here it is disturbed by ripples, perhaps a couple of raindrops. The background seems just a bit more muted perhaps, too. It is interesting to see how the feeling of the image. It is subtle, but definitely different. I think I prefer the "clear water" version, too.

Christina - the exposures were identical (I've just double checked), although the light was changing so there are some fractional differences in the shots. The processing for this shot was done by means of copying the layers that I used for the first shot.

Differences that I see are either very minor differences in the underlying subject ("reality"), or differences that my mind perceives because of the different impact of the light on the water. I look much less intensely at the water in this version so my eye wanders around the picture more.

Having said that the first picture was very real, I suppose that I have to say that this is hyper-real! Now the pool is able to compete with the stones and life is returned to its normal balance.

I was almost certain that the blue sky was more intense in this second post, and I enjoyed that. And then, when I checked, of course the blue is the same—at least I think so. I do think I prefer the first one, because I particularly enjoyed the contrast between all the textured elements and the glass-like surface of the water in the first image.

Those ripples make this totally different in ones viewing pleasure. I'm much more in favour of the still pool rather than this rippled version. The pool doesn't seem as bright and as such blends more in with its surroundings. I therefore started to investigate more deeper in to this shot and couldn't work out what was lurking in the distance - top (leftish) centre just beneath the very long thin arcing branch.

'I look much less intensely at the water in this version so my eye wanders around the picture more.'

The ripples disrupting the surface let my eye out of the reflection. Curious. This photo looks darker somehow.
