Storm Clearing

Blue Springs, MO

An initial observation is that, on my screen, the sky has got a bit of digital disintegration, particularly round the cloud at the top. It may be the compression.

This view emphasizes the temple-like nature of the structure: at first I wanted to see the wording of the tall neon sign (the religious symbol!!) but that would have detracted from the symmetry of the green columns.

The small patch of post-storm pink behind the trees is eclipsed by the light from the 'temple': the latter offering its own brand of comfort. One for a modern series of Americana.

This is tough. I can't help but wanting the front of the sign at the top to be more visible. Given that it is not I then start to wander around and keep ending up at the car to the right and the bright light a little further behind it. The 'mall' itself does not hold me in and the sky gives no indication of a clearing storm. However, overall I find the picture very enjoyable but I struggle to put my finger on exactly why...it can't only be that car.

It is the jpeg compression that has produced the grainy sky.

With respect to the sign it is less or more due to curiosity, once you can see a bit, more is desired!

I keep wondering what that thing on the left is?

That pesky sky is a result of the JPEG compression (origianl in RAW), small sensor, and bumping up the ISO (100>400) to get a hand holdable photo. In retrospect, I wish that I had used the tripod at ISO 100. I was tryng to be quick as I was stomping around on someone's wet side yard.

a mainly cold scene, the patches of colour add warmth to the building making it inviting. I feel like a hot coffee now.

Hand held in that light -- surprised by the sharpness you achieved. I'm not so interested in seeing the front of the sign since I know what it says and looks like just from the part I can see! Good branding, I suppose. I didn't think of it as "temple-like" either for the same reason, though I can see that now.

This makes me think of a carnival midway at night, except that nothing is moving -- the wetness adds a lot to the atmosphere and color.

I also like the car.

The car is vital as it helps deal with the lack of symmetry in the trees. The sign doesn't bother me, but I can't help looking at that saturated blue and thinking "that'll be a pig to print".

The location is, obviously, neat.
