Self Portrait on Wall

Kugayama, Suginami-ku, Tokyo.
Comments:
Now this strikes me as ominious, too many scary movies in my youth with the dark lurking figure and the shadowy tree. Although the top is cropped too tight for my liking (too small of hints of others), it provides an interesting counterbalance to the larger gray area. And I find very interesting the gray pattern wall.
I think that I am peering down into a drain canal or cemented river bed. Very interesting effect.
Also, since you don't want to crop the bottom edge, I would burn down that white area (foam cup?) in the lower right corner, distracting.
Not ominous or scary for me. Fascinating, really. I like the dark shadow fence at the bottom with the white fence at the top. Layers of interest, nice textures, and I enjoyed finding the bicycle.
Another excellent image of a wall.
The shadow of a fence below and the fence above make a wonderful frame for this picture.
The bike, person and shadow of a yourself give this picture content. Wonderful.
Man contemplating his navel while the world passes by! The shadow of the tree is very Japanese accompanied by a signpost of some sort.
The composition works OK but I have a small hankering after a portrait mode shot showing more at the top: it would be fun to go from the depths to (relatively higher) heights.
This reminded me of fun on MFT. Ferd Berfle started a series of Modulor "shadow self portraits" which then led to a number of "tribute" images.
So having been predisposed to a smile I then enjoyed the snippets of life that hint of their existence in the image.
Alternative title: self portrait with cyclist
In some ways the measured simplicity of this is more akin to a painting than a photo.
The white dot lower right helps stop me falling out of that corner of the picture. My inclination on processing would probably have been to remove it, but seeing it here I think it works.
Thanks for the comments and I never even noticed that white spot before it was pointed out. Took a second which has a small dog walking along the top. At these small web sizes it lost a lot in compression. I have done many more self portraits with the Rollei than the Bessa. Perhaps the method of viewing the shot has much to do with this...or age has made me a little more vain...
