The Hazards of the Party Photographer
Comments:
I love the way this little girl threatens to come right through the lens. I get the feeling this little gal will someday be a force to be reckoned with.
Great choices on your part. Getting the glasses in the shot added a big plus.
the bright colous, glass and girl in teh background give us an idea that we are at a celebration and it explains the sugary looking cake feftovers on her face.
The blue chairs unbalance the picture for me, it is feels out of character from the cheery looking happenings on the left.
She's certainly not shy! I think that the way she engages with the camera and steps aside from the party is very effective. I can see what Robert means about the blue chair but it just seems to me that the right-hand side of the picture shows that the village hall is left empty and, in its way, gives more context. It is difficult with shots like these to decide whether one is going to work hard to eliminate bright areas, such as along the top, or just accept that, again, it is all part of the context.
Why the C18 habit of giving Capitals to certain Words?
What lovely timing. She's on the brink of doing something noisy. Focus is spot on with just the right amount of DOF. Would like a little more catch light in the eyes though. Again, the various goings-on in the background add a further dimension to this as you can just about work out what they are. There are three strong highlights holding down three corners so bottom left seems unusual. Saving grace is that wonderful hue of the tablecloth! It's probably obvious but the further away you look at this the less she becomes a barrier for viewing the whole picture. The converse is true when you move in closer.
The glasses are important for balancing out the colour scheme.
She looks like a troublemaker. Keep a close eye on her cake and juice intake.
She does have the air of somebody trying to work out what they can get away with.
A nice immediacy here -- I like the spontaneity and directness of the child. (and she does look like trouble!) The blue chair doesn't do anything for me either, but the entire right side with its colors and softness is a delight.
Very direct and inquisitive. I agree with liking a little more in delination in her eyes. Otherwise a great portrait of a young child.
