Team RAC

A day at Thruxton as a birthday treat from my family. The day was an advert for big-long Canon lenses. It was also a lesson in the thrust of semi-pro photography where all good spots were a forest of photographers and I experienced a photographer's 'wife' who stood in front of me every time I lifted my lens. My 400mm equiv was insufficient for all but the busiest spots so I photographed the crowd!

What a considerate and self-sacrificing family! I'm glad you have brought us the crowd and not the cars!! I know 400mm is not a lot in these situations but Olympus do some fairly big ones and there is always the 2x converter...

The fact that the peak of the cap is covering a lot of her face makes for a more individual portrait and conveys well the mix that goes to make up a child at that age. I'm intrigued by what look like some rather expensive furs in the background.

There's something nearly iconic about this, like a still from a movie. If it was a fedora and the scene was darker, this would be straight out of a noir film. However, the bright colors stand in opposition to the mental image, and the image is all the better for that tension.

You've certainly been hitting the colours recently.

It is a charming portrait, but what lifts it is the orange/green combination at the top.

all I look at here is the bright orange cap which may be the intention.
The forms created by the edge of the frame and the girl are similiar on both sides and I seem to lose interest in any content there.

The color mix is very striking, but I'd prefer more girl, less hat. I miss the eyes.

I can see this as a race poster, and I find myself wondering more about who this girl (?) is and sort of creating a nice little story as to what is going on.

Is this a modern Davy Crockett hat? That 'tail' top right sure makes me want to think so. The subject looks sad/bored as dose most of background of this shot which then contrasts well with the brightness of the hat colour and the light in the hair. A very simple layout but effective and it does want me to see more of what may be holding their interest in the ground (most likely shoes but I'd guess it's a 'Nintendo').
