Roadside Bling?

Shoto, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.

Comments:
My, that is a very 'we have arrived' cone. What every successful corporation needs.

I find the logo slightly sinister.

You have created a picture that is an interesting reversal of the norm. The shiny 'photo-attractive' shutter is background to the humdrum cone.

You continue to nudge my return to both square formats and larger negatives.

No, no, no. If Colin goes square, that means twice as many square images to look at, which means twice as many potential inspirations to buy a 6X6. For the sake of my bank account, Colin, please do not start shooting MF.

The logo is rather sinister, like some sort of corporate dunce cap, but I think I might like a little something more on the right.

The square does work here! I had to look up 'bling' because it is one of those words that one hears right on the periphery of one's life and I wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something. I'm still not sure whether it is the cone or the ramp that is bling: maybe both.

The strength in this picture stems from the extraordinary tonal range and the light. For me, the right hand side is full of light, so it doesn't need anything else. There are very different, and potentially clashing, shapes but they have been marshalled into some sort of order.

I too needed to check the usage of 'bling' before posting. Initially I chose it to tie in with the designer cone however, I prefer its former usage in the sense of bright (shiny teeth) and how the shutter 'blings' a little in this shot. Thanks for the comments - not sure Coco would be happy with her logo being interpreted as sinister. This was taken no where near a designer boutique which made it the more unusual. A Chanel cone in Ginza would not seem out of place, but in the back streets of an admittedly upmarket neighbourhood it was a most pleasing find. I can show more to the right if you need it Matt but that shot seemed much too 'formal'.

Another interesting "shiny, happy" square image from Tokyo. (another case where I don't see anything "sinister").

Not sure "bling" would come to mind for me for the cone or even the ramp -- my (admittedly limited) understanding of that bit of slang makes me think of something more flashy and ostentatious. But no matter the title, the image is fine.

I'm not sure I need more to the right so much as I want something else on the right to balance out the cone, but perhaps that would still be a bit too formal.

I think the symbol is 'sinister' because it resembles the Biohazard symbol.

The image creates a clinical feeling, it is all very clean......hang on is that a cigarette butt I see?

Coming in to this late, I find a lot of humor in this image. The logo has been used to 'upscale' a lot of different items, thus seeing here, is just funny to me. The lowely, plastic traffic cone is about as base as you might get and then try to upscale it with the logo. Funny.

And the location of the cone (focal point due to the image title) within this image does not bother me and I don't know why...
