Paris

Comments:
Interesting title - it looks like Wales, or at least the foreground does, as does the water! It is also an interesting photo: on opening, all I saw was the Eiffel Tower; but ever since I cannot be certain that it isn't a cast-iron bridge. In some ways it is a pity about the floating containers but, on the other hand, they are part and parcel of an image that is not run of the mill. The few dots of pink bottom left and the hull top right add to the quirkiness.
An almost Dadaesque package!
Quirky is about right as a description for this. Lots of non-standard stuff that might sound like that they wouldn't work, but here they do. For example, the pink flowers might sound like they would be a candidate for cropping out, but I find that they do a good job in stopping the, otherwise virulent, green/purple combination from becoming overwhelming
I love the island, its lack of focus, and the way it merges with the overhanging branch.
I've looked at this several times -- time to try to comment. I also thought "Eiffel Tower" after seeing the title, though also uncertain on that -- which probably isn't a bad thing.
The blooming purple irises in all that green are very dominant and pretty, -- the rest saves it from being postcard pretty. I'll happily go along with the "quirky" description. ;-)
I hope it is the Eiffel Tower as it would be one of the more interesting ways in photographing it. The general flatness of the presentation adds to the rather messy components but as Colin says they all work well together. The left hand curve of the 'tower' runs smoothly and pleasingly into the foreground bank. Well seen.
To try to work a reinterputation of a cliched subject is an admirable and dauting task. I really applade the effort!
The out of focus island does not work for me in this particular image. But perhaps having this image with a series of others working the same topic would have some potential.
Sorry for the delayed comment on this one. I kept looking but not finding much to say.
'This was my attempt to avoid the clichéd Eiffel Tower picture.'
The Eiffel Tower is hard subject to shoot without reverting to clichés. My own attempts to do mostly failed, but the most successful shots were the ones that focussed on the details of the structure. The structure is certainly evident in this shot, but it is no longer a product of the industrial age. Reflected in the pool and in the context of the greenery, it becomes something much more naturalistic, like some sort of tree originally designed by iron robots. I'm not in love with the out of focus island, but the idea of the shot appeals to me.
