Sign of the Times

Comments:
Observation 1: Drink less coffee :-)

Observation 2: This is so nearly the colourway of the olympic rings.

I presume that this is a car window shot. The effect ends up looking more like vibration (earthquake?) than travel. China has a vibrant economy etc.

Actually, not enough coffee that morning! And yes, a morning van window shot with some panning and a bit of cropping. I like your 'vibrant economy' thought;- )

Potentially in my series 'Open During Construction'.

This is not an easy photo: for instance, the red sign (if it's a sign) at the base is not easily made out at this size. Nor is it visually easy so one is forced to make of it what one can. What I think it brings out is the apparent chaos of so much going on , which might (or might not) lead to some sort of harmony; although, if the normal outward signs of capitalism are anything to go by, the auguries here are not promising. A shed has sprung up over the hedge and a pylon leads a cable haphazardly across the terrain. One senses that whatever progress is being made is rather dizzying.

This image seems to convey your message about times in China very well. John's word "dizzying" works for me.

The shadowy tall high wire structure in the background helps to keep me in the picture and to make more sense of it.

I always have a hard time with fuzzy photographs, even more so when it is obviously intentional. So I struggle with this one too.

I don't have a problem with fuzziness although I laughed at the Richard Gere comment in lenswork (I'll email it to anyone who didn't see it).

The fuzziness in this image coupled with the subject mater again creates a feeling of frenetic activity.

For me it works.

Thanks for your comments, I especially appreciate the "frenetic activity" that is conveyed. Part of my blurring for some of my China series photographs is related to the feeling of a quick glimpse of what I saw and then the foggy and indistinct memory of it afterwards.

You get a great sense of size and speed from this one. Not sure that if you'd caught the whole of the large structure whether I'd feel the same. I appreciate this in the sense of a quick grab and easily forgotton. Otherwise, it doesn't do a great deal for me.
