Irish Lifebelt

Comments:
Great light and well held. The curve of the water also exagerates its depth if that makes any sense. I'm really having to think about the positinging of the lifebelt's supporting post and the significance on the whole of it not bisecting the horizon.

The title is a bit naughty! I have no problem with the positioning of anything: having the post below the horizon enables the sky to have a fuller impact. The play of greys is wonderful and enhanced by the light reflected off that roiling water. And here is a great use of red to show it all off!! The rock also makes a strong contribution to the composition; in fact, I suspect that subliminally it is the key point around which everything else revolves. But I wouldn't start here if I were you!

It's gorgeous light, and it lends an atmosphere of mystery to this; how far out in the water are we?

Looks like you had some grand Irish light (to be sure...). Technically this is very well done, but it, er, doesn't float my boat aesthetically. I'm left, er, all at sea and not knowing what to look at.

Colin - which side of your brain are you using?!! I think that the strength of this is that one does bounce around and there is always something at each point.

John - I can understand what you say without really getting it. As to which side of the brain that means is in use, I'll leave you and TED to work out.

I think that TED is a bit of a sleeping partner!

Agreed the light is lovely, and well handled. I very much like the sky in this image and how the relative smoothness of it contrasts with the texture of the water.

I think I could use some information on just what I'm looking at here and some cultural background, since I'm wondering what is "naughty" about the title.

Almost seems like that there is the light half of this horizontal image and a dark half, with the lifebelt in the darker half, I guess to 'rescue' this image;- )

I am standing about half metre from the edge of the lake on a rock that I lept on to.

The lifebelt is Irish. The 'naughty' bit is that the Irish are often mocked for doing silly things by the British, in the same way that other nations have those they mock. So the lifebelt out in the middle of the lake is a bit silly and some might say a bit Irish. However I have Irish lifebelt 2,3,4,5,............
