Cat and the Cradle

Comments:
Is your title a variation on 'cat's cradle'?

There are a lot of interesting details in the this with the added bonus of the rain making it all shine. As I mentioned in an earlier picture from China, the housing looks depressingly like British post-modern bulk housing. The 'cat's cradle' of latticed crane jibs is fun. My only niggle is that we are limited to seeing the faces of the two men further away but I am happy with the overall sense of activity.

John, I did not consider the string game for this title/image, and I really appreciate you seeing that aspect and commenting on it. Another reason I like participating so much, you all bring something new and different perspective to the images that are posted.

Very nice framing of the colorful action. I don't miss all the faces so much -- find the different colored hard hats and jackets enough. I do like the front face view of the crane operator in his little rectangle though!

Your 'Open During Construction' series is taking an interesting approach when it comes to scale. The scale of the construction seems immense, but the scale of the photos is often definitely human. The gray gates in this frame in particular serve to keep the scale human size. I'm not sure that it entirely works, but it is a different approach.

This isn't working for me. I've no objection to the subject matter, and the gates are good, but I keep pondering this trying to find what I've 'missed'.

For me it is all about the gates. They are what have let me see the forbidden, a peek of what is behind. Move forward and exclude the gates and for me it is nothing.

It's not all adding up for me either. However, I do like the crane operator nice and dry in the cabin. This could almost be anywhere in the world but given that broom I'm guessing this is China. As such, I need something a little more just to make that CAT look a little more out of place. As it is, there's a little too much going on and I'm not settling on anything in particular (save the operator).

I feel lost too. A bit like "well, what did he see that I don't?"
