Ball and Dog

Comments:
Or possibly a red lead balloon?
I was wondering about the closed eyes, but decided that the expression manages to convey a joke shared rather well.
Not a lot else to say other than ho ho ho :-)
A very funny visual joke, as you must be wondering what that dog is thinking: "Come on, just gimme a chance will ya, I'll fetch it, honestly I will, come on throw it already!"
Nice overall balance to this photograph and I like the direct eye contact with the baby. Tonal values are nice, but the shadows seem blocked in the back ground rocks and the womens face.
The framing of the subject matter is very good and it carries both joke and allegory: the child is more ball and chain than the ball (or the dog!).
Before I read Doug's comment, I was also thinking about the dark bits. I would have lassoed her face and lightened it a bit for starters. As to other shadows, this monitor doesn't enable me to judge but there do seem to be some really dark bits that don't really justify silhouette status.
But the technical bits don't outweigh the enjoyment of the scene.
Delightful. All three of them sum up this beach visit so well. I'd agree with John and work a little with some of the shadows. But this is a minor quibble given the strength of the scene plus a multitude of triangles at work. Well seen.
Wonderful, Rex. I agree with the above about everything including the dark shadows, but that doesn't keep me from loving this!
The shadows look fine to me. This has an excellent balance to it, with the the triumvirate of ball, mom/kid, dog providing a triangle that mirrors the inverted triangle of the cliffs on either side. Nice.
I just enjoy th scene the way it is. I find the light excellently rendered, not a small feat. I would not touch anything. Theere is an emphasis on the baby face that might be lost if the mother's face was lightened. Besides, I doubt it'd look natural.
This is a lovely memory that goes far far beyond the mere souvenir picture.
This photo is cool. The weird location, the huge baloon. Makes us wonder what the hell is going on here. Composition is very good, and the stares play too, dog looks woman, woman looks baby and baby looks us. Surrealist and funny.
Matt I think the ball is a buffer(?) that they hang over the side of big boats when they tie up at a quay.
The lady was looking down when she answered my question about what she was going to do with it. She admitted to having a garden full of items like this, she seemed embarassed!
The image is fairly manipulated with levels and curves due to the strong backlight. So changes could be made to suit.
The comments about lack of detail in the rocks are interesting as I can see detail all through the left hand rock, the right hand one less so. Can you look HERE. This came from a discussion about Zones so I made this. I can see all circles in all blocks, can you?
The shadows seemed fine to me. Dark, yes, but fitting the rest of the picture.
I can see all the circles (laptop screen), although the darkest patch requires a careful tilt.
Now I've got my TFT back, I have no problem with shadows either.
Fender is the word Rex. But I think that this is a mooring float.
