2nd Day of Spring, 2008, Chicago, IL (04560025)

I think Doug has inspired me to start shooting from the window of my car ;-)

Comments:
This photo was also posted on the Group of F blog.

Is there any other Chicago? The weather certainly encourages shooting from a car but it does give a movie-like feel to the image: not just the other lane but the evident marks on the window as if the film-maker was examining someone's journey or passing the street where a crime was committed. Probably harmless enough though. The dark trunk of the tree brings one the black that this junkie needs! It's nicely balanced by the sign on the left-hand block. Are the scratches to show authenticity? I must locate the PS plug-in!!

I haven't got my head round how Group of F works yet.

Beautifully balanced and definitely captures the coldness and feel of the place. The lone figure in the center is a nice touch.

The size here shows it much better than on Group of F.

John, that plugin name would be "Inattentive Photographer v1.2"

It was the figure that made me look, and then I saw the balance. Shooting from the car was a necessity as we were stuck in traffic. 5 mph for about 3 hours.

Group of F is a sort of collective blog with no fixed membership. They run little projects - this photo was posted to the postcard project - and occasionally invite guest to post portfolios. The sizes are a little small, but the collection of photography is really eclectic.

The orthoganals lead my eye to the person; any other placing and it would probably have been lost.

I have a feeling that the slush on the road is vertical rather than horizontal, weird.

It took me some toime to realise the blothchy car window had created an effect on the tree which I liked.

That shadowy person makes this work for me. As rex says the orthogonals lead to to them. I'm a little undecided about the amount of road in the foreground - it makes the escape from that close seem a little easier to manage. Creepy tree.

I really like the mood in this shot. I would like to see more top and less bottom, but its great anyway.

I don't seem to be as convinced as the others as to the importance of the central figure. To me this is a photo of the blotchy window.

Everyone, thanks for looking. Hopefully this will be my last shot of winter weather for a while.

'To me this is a photo of the blotchy window.'

Guess that means you wouldn't be interested in a buying a PS plugin to reproduce this effect ;-)

It's a fine blotchy window :-)

Wow, do I every like this image. The person walking up the middle of the parking area, the in-and-out of focus of tree on the right, the really cold (been there) feeling I get from this. Poetic. and very nice.
