Kate. Hall Light (04280005a)

Comments:
I find this very arresting and attention grabbing due to the lines appearing to radiate from Kate's head. The 'slipped halo' is also very interesting and brings my eye into Kate. That zip almost detaches her head and shoulders from her body.

A very powerful portrait.

The lines along the wall are intriguing: they look like pull-down shop fronts but I'm not sure that they are. But they are an effective part of the picture. I've been avoiding the bright light round her head as that upsets the proportion of the head itself. The couture is less unsettling but does leave one with the feeling that she has been wound up and is about to whirl anti-clockwise any minute now!

The basic premise of light and dark is striking and, with the corrugated bits, very effective. I could have done without the halo light though.

It is rather striking with all the flowing lines. The zipper is well brought out. Like John, I find the whole appearance rather clockwork/robotic/futuristic. Not a criticism but perhaps another shot that will not be gracing the mantelpiece of Kate's mother.

When I see your images of Kate, particularly those that are not "traditional" portraits, I often think how fortunate you are to have such a willing, available, and interesting subject.

I was initially with John on the lights around the head, but then there is something mesmerizing about the whole center area -- with the staring eyes, glasses, asymmetrical zipper, and those lights seem to add to that effect. A still from a science fiction thriller comes to mind.

A very direct and engaging portrait, with the jacket slightly askew and the side lines kinda of radiating out and then the 'odd' framing of her head. Not your typical people picture. But I feel the intensity of the eyes and contact between the subject and photographer. Intense.

2001, A Space Odyssey. I immediately thought about that film when I saw this. The lighting reflection in the glasses, the jacket slightly futuristic (modern) style, the straight line all around, the glance.

I particularly enjoy the bright lighting on the face and the dark surrounding.
