Bar Idiot Savart

Kitazawa, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.
Comments:
A cultural potperrie, the traditional Japaneese lamp with the English language poster and the same language mix for the carton and bottles. Too bad you could photography this with out the electrical box in the upper left corner. But you have to do the best you can with what you find, eh? Nice tonalities, with the lamp at the top edge providing just a little bit of tension. As to the monkey, hmmmm, kinda of menacing....
Bar idiot savant would have had me wondering but "Savart" has me confused!!! Although I presume that the picture hinges on that misunderstanding the rest of it is a fun composition. The "electrical box"(es) are all part of the urban scene. If one analysed the proportion of tones I'm sure it would add up to some golden ratio!
If we ring that number do we get someone who speaks English?
I Googled "Idiot Savart" as soon as this picture appeared. Only two URLs were returned and one was this image. I was impressed. The other URL returned didn't seem to have the the term on the page.
Might it be a miss-spell of Idiot Savant? I just read an article about apes out performing students on memory tests!!!
It is an incongruous collection of subjects which does hold my interest and tell a story.
I've seen humorous language mistakes and typos on labels and in directions on goods made in other countries before, but nothing like this! Where, oh where did that come from? I wonder what they think it means?
And along with that gem, what looks like liquor bottles upside down in a milk carton, a painted monkey face, and an oriental lamp -- all nicely packaged in another fine square design.
Another image for your book.
My eye keeps going to the 'MEGMILK' crate, which my brain keeps trying to read as 'MEGAMILK', which is what giant grinning monkeys drink, apparently. I like pictures that let me know how strangely my mind works.
Feel free to call the number! I'm not sure whether the name of the bar very subtle or just a typo. I'll try and dig out some history. This wall was used as a backdrop to the panda shot I posted here some time back. I was going back to shoot the panda in square format but it seems he's left for a new adventure. Thanks for the comments - wasn't sure that it needed a further element bottom right but no one seemed to worry too much about it so I'll let it pass.
Now you ask, no - I don't think that anything is needed bottom right. It hadn't struck when I wrote initially and coming to look at it specifically with that in mind makes no difference: there are two views, one a triangle of the face, lantern and crate and a second trapezoid with the three already mentioned and the black dot below the face. Both balance out!
