Merry Xmas

And thanks to all for making Stills such an engaging place though the year.
Comments:
Nothing ambiguous about the title then!! Having been less enthusiastic about the 'soft' crab apples, my 'sensitive' side has finally been reached and I do find these very magical! It looks as though you had quite a few degrees more frost than us - an amazing effect. This is probably quite common in Matt's neck of the woods but not in Florida, even if there are the occasional forays below zero (and I have been there during a frost and you don't feel much more stupid than finding you only have a beach shirt at six in the morning!).
A good note for Stills as it heads for the end of the year.
John,
Not especially cold, but a combination of the permanent shadow and our frost pocket position meant that we had four days of sub-zero temps which allowed the frost to build up night upon night. Twenty metres above us was completely clear, whilst the peaks were in sunshine and probably *quite* warm.
"quite common in Matt's neck of the woods"
Frost doesn't normally accumulate quite like this in Illinois, but last week we had a foggy day in the 30's following by a night down into the teens; the world has seldom been such a glorious color when the sun came up.
This strikes me as documentary art in much the same way that Christina's bird & bug pictures combine beauty with such precise rendering. I like it.

Colin, thanks to you for putting all this together.
Merry Christmas to everyone. If you are traveling over the holidays, stay safe and sane.
Magical, indeed. And just the thing for the holiday season. Almost makes me miss cold weather. Quite beautiful, Colin.
My thanks in return for inviting me into this exceptional group -- it has been thoroughly enjoyable as well as educational and inspirational.
Happy Holidays to all.
The details of the ice crystals are really nice and I feel the cold.
Thanks as well to all of you for your time to consider and provide some candid comments for me and allowing me the opportunity to see and participate in your images.
Merry Christmas and wishing you all a great New Year.
Brings a chill wind to these parts of the world too. Wonderfully simple. They almost look like lychees..? Almost Christina-like in background rendition. And just enough colour to make this work as a limited colour monotone...
A heartfelt thanks from me as well. Stills has maintained its importance to me for another year due to the committment and thoughtful comments of the membership. A big slap on the back to Colin for arranging this gathering and my gratitude to all the members for keeping the site alive, relevant and educational.
I have had an image of frost go soft before my eyes before I realised my own breath was warming it up enough to melt the sharp bits!
This has retained that crispness which helps with the chill factor. The background also has its own cold feel.
I will take this opportunity to thank Colin for being mien host and for the other members being such good company. Even blogger has maintained a discrete presence this year!
Rex - 150mm (250 equiv) macro lens, so far enough away to avoid any melting. Although it was cold enough that if I had been careful I might have been able to get the crystals to grow :-)
Always a joy to see that so-called clichés can be revisited successfully. To a classmate who said "Sir, everything has been photographed", my academy teacher replied: "Yes, indeed, but not by you."
