South Lake, JiaXing

Comments:
From all the detail of stones and leaves to this simple, serene, zen-like scene. Then the signs of civilization in the foggy distance turn it into more than just a pretty water and boat picture. Nice.
My knowledge of Chinese geography prevents me locating this precisely but I presume it is near Shanghai (is that not the communications tower on the right?).
The colour is, on the one hand, attractive but also exudes pollution - a Blade Runner type of appearance. With the the city in the background, this is an unsettling picture: what price progress?
I like the fact that there is plenty of space above and below the boat and river banks.
I think the standard comment would be either less sky or less foreground.
However it is the way you've presented it and it creates the feel of tranquility and spaciousness.
The boat is traveling towards us - you can just make out its driver. Given this, I'd want less sky and more foreground water...but only a little to break up the central positioning of the boat. It is most tranquil yet with a whisper of noise in the background horizon. This needs to be seen much bigger I guess.
Thank you for the great feedback. I did flip-flop with croping: more sky, more water, leave alone, especially with the boat and horizon about center. So since here in China, I decided to use their sense of space and volume to further provide the effect. Peaceful was how I was feeling while I took this photograph.
I don't see tranquility. I see looming city. There is a lot of the current story of China in this one photo. Crops would, I think, reduce the impact by making the shot look more like a cliche. As it is, this is a photo I had to work to see, but once I saw it well I enjoyed it all the more.
