Diverging 'Verticals'

Comments:
Ho Ho Ho.

The pillar in the background plays nicely.

The title says it all.

This is a very amusing image. But it is hard for me to understand the context, I feel like I need to see more of what they are reacting to.

I always like to know where things are: is that Bath in the background?

This has a lot going for it. I think it is amusing more for the expressions and postures than the vertical theme you have hit on: those two convey a tremendous amount. But then the whole composition sweeps one up in a swirl of colour and interest. The man and boy are just the right distance into the picture and, as I said above, there is plenty of interest in how they look without worrying at all about what they are looking at. The boy rocking on the stone kerb is very typical.

To pursue a topical theme: I don't think that the PAGB would rate this, and they ought to!

This has all the warmth, color, and especially animation that I missed in the mirror scene "Smile". Very enjoyable.

Ashton Court Mansion, Bristol.

The city that would like to be Bath!

Wonderful! If this was posed then I'd want the front guy to be a little further away from the wall - i.e. bisecting the gate posts in the back ground. It's all well balanced and leaning in many directions. The trees give the viewer some sense of the vertical which emphasizes the leans a little more. Well seen.

Ha! Apart from the great moment captured, the warm colors of this are really excellent.
