World of Illusions

Comments:
I find my self being drawn into this image although it seems to run counter to my usual "rules", e.g. with the highlight in the upper right corner. Easy to see where the title is from, but with the shadows (must be a narrow street in the late of day), I feel that it could of also been titled Camera (of the )Obscura. I alos find very interesting the textures of the wall in both the shadow as well as in the sunlight. Lots to see. Nice.
I hope that they take down the 'film shoot' sign before filming! You must have had some fun sorting out the horizontal in this: it more resembles a Devon cottage than an Edinburgh street. Was that the "world of illusions"? I hope you weren't putting it up for the texture of the wall!! I think that what anchors this for me and gives it interest is the slope of the road and the cobbles.

"For 150 years the amazing camera Obscura has facinated visitors with its live moving panorama of the city. Also, stunning views from rooftop terrace and three floors of interactive, hands-on fun in the World of Illusions." Taken from a general guide to Edinburgh. Their own website is 'coming soon'.

Aw, you mean that the texture isn't good :-)
It was the filmshoot sign that attracted me. Of course that disappears somewhat with this scale, but I ended up liking the whole enough to post it anyway.
Illusions, memories, nostalgia, photography history, how more photographic can it be?
Regarding form, maybe the shadow could be more shadow-like?
'Scanners Close'? At this size it works but larger perhaps not. The most left window works so well with the sliced 'A'. This probably only works within the 'camera' community but for those in the know there are a number of lovely plays between the elements which lifts this from a 'flat' representation to something much deeper. I'd lose the door and window on the right though.
Skinner's Close. But I'm sure that a little over night paint work could solve that.
I'd lose the door and window on the right though.
I did wonder about that but I wanted to keep the feel of continuous building that one gets in older streets.
I'm not enough "in the know" to get all the elements of this but it is an interesting place. I think I'd also prefer the composition with the door and window cropped out, but than that partial window and its shadows are fairly interesting to me on their own.
I love the geometry of this, but find myself wishing for a little more contrast, if for no other reason than to bring out that band of light in the top right corner. For me, that band of light makes the photo.
