Melonworm Moth

Comments:
I don't know how much this is down to composition, post-processing or a fluke of the background, but that main moth looks like it has got one of the zoom space effects behind it. As a consequence I'm getting some very disturbing optical effect...and no, I haven't been drinking :-)
Interesting looking creature.
Colin -- afraid I'm not understanding about the "zoom space effects" so difficult to address that. The background is just as it was taken.
Don't worry Christina, I have no idea what Colin means either! But there is an overall effect in this that takes it beyond being a mere photograph: the left-hand grouping of the flower head exemplifies it with the green controlling the outburst of yellow. The Melonworm moth is fascinating; is the other one a different type? Your control of DOF here is spot on.
It reminds me of a superior illustration in a Victorian book.
John -- I do not know what the other moth is. There are many moth species and this one does not have the uniqueness of the melonworm moth, so I haven't even tried to figure it out!
The gentle colours participate in the calmness this picture radiates. It has a classic composition that never fails to work.
I looked up Melonworm Moth (Diaphania hyalinata) and the fluffy tail seems to be its most distinctive feature.
The background is another out of special collection.
I like the subtlety of the lighting and colours, again it oozes harmony. The second 'boring' little moth helps emphasise the beauty and uniqueness of the Melonworm.
Very nice image, in your green mood, and I like the composition of the two moths and the flower buds. I think it looks like a very nice nature illustration.
Quite wonderful. As usual the background compliments the 'action' so well. I have one minor niggle: more space between the leaf below the buds left and the right most stem. I'd usually have issues with that left most leaf creeping in to the scene at the bottom. However, it is vital for this shot as it balances out the top heavy moth. Wonderful colours - muted.
I'm entirely sure I know what colin means by zoom space effect either, but there is something odd about the way the moth is mirrored by the blossom directly behind. Particularly that little fluffy bit of the moth's tail.
