Four Hydrants

Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

Comments:
A bit of typo there "Fire Hydrant"

LoL :-)

I am rather appalled at the lack of symmetry with the left-hand hydrant, doesn't it know it should conform!!

This image just oozes quality.

Somebody is making money out of fighting fires in Tokyo!

Quite a few framing 'Ls' set off the tree, which leads me to admire the landscaping that sets that tree off against the tiled wall. If only we had urban consideration like that in UK. I have to say that this is the sort of b/w that I like.

I know that if I had been standing there, the camera would have been over to take a portrait mode shot to get more of the tree in. This picture is fine but one is left wondering how high the tree goes.

If I worked near there, I would have a copy of this photo on my desk. Not necessarily very large - maybe 4 x 4. Big enough to pick up and look at to get my head out of the office.

The best looking fire hydrants I've ever seen. This reminds me of your shots at the outdoor museum -- they could be a work of art as beautifully as they are displayed here.

I have looked at this several time since you posted it. My eyes remain stuck to those hydrants in fascination (didn't know the word before, thanks!).

then the way the two wall patterns respond to each other, like the two foliages. And that one hydrant on the left different like the Van Gogh iris.

I love the look of the chrome, but I'm less thrilled with the tree. It's either wrong compositionally, or those shadows are just too deep. I can't decide which. I think this image might have worked better if cropped horizontally.

Thanks for the comments. For a brief period I used to be working in the building on the left. I walked passed this scene many times during the summer waiting for autumn to come along so I could shoot it. Matt - I took delivery of a Pentax 67 recently and shot this same scene horizontally. Once I get it scanned I'll let you know!
