Winchester Road, Murrieta California

I was off-line and unable to post due to some IT issues, which I hope are now solved;- )

Comments:
I don't know whether this is the entrance to the town or not but one gets an impression of being on the outskirts with the buildings and road giving way to countryside. The traffic lights and telegraph poles lead one in to the housing beyond. The ratio of sky to land emphasizes the scale. A very descriptive photo.

Ugly place, beautiful sky. I often think this when looking at your photos. That's not a criticism, but I do struggle to match those skies up with what's going on beneath them.

The toning might be a bit much.

Matt, thanks, because you provide the lead into my metaphoric point, it can be a beautiful day during an awful time in your life.

The toning was specific to match the entire series of images to help with the consistency of the "look". Now I am checking that they also have a consistency in having some real black tones! ;- )

The sky wins this over. Beneath it, as others have suggested, is all a little 'ugly'. There's not a single strong point at ground level that really grabs me - apart from that near central telegraph pole... did you move in closer to it at all?

I think that the cross (presumably the cause of the photo being taken) does work as a non-sky focal point. It would probably work better on a bigger print.

I do also like the way that it is insignificant when compared to the telecoms infrastructure and traffic controls.

I agree with John - a very descriptive photo.

Although I didn't notice it immediately, once I did see the cross, it helped pull this together for me. I also agree with the "descriptive" adjective.

Being strange I noticed the fallen tree on the left. I didn't notice the cross.

I did notice the sky and its dominance in the image.

Thanks all for your comments. I had moved in very close for a series of pictures, but in retrospect, this image conveyed my meaning best. And the fallen tree is actally windswept, hard to distinguish with my final image values.
At the start of creating this series, it was all about the details of the memorials, then it became one of an intermediate view, and now my images try to place the "event" in the grander scheme of things. This may be the last image in the portfolio;- )
