End of an August Day

Indian Rocks Beach after sunset

Comments:
I like the inclusion of the three figures, and the rhyme they create with the three houses. They sky is beautiful, but it seems to draw the eye to frame left, while everything else draws the eye to frame right.

Thanks, Matt. I was wrestling with the composition and also tried a square crop here:

I'm not sure it totally solved it, and Stan likes this one better -- but I do like seeing the women as a larger part of the picture in the square one. I took a number of other images with sky and houses, but this is the only one where I got interesting figures.

Six of one, half-a-dozen of the other! Of course, in a larger print the figures would be larger. Certainly the wind-tossed tree on the left is quite an important part of this picture but, there again, the houses on their own in the square shot make an excellent picture! Whatever, I particularly like the electric sky/green house combination. In fact, it is difficult to capture the colour and feel of that sky with one word - no single colour suffices. And now off for a clam chowder!

Beautiful. Superb sky and a generally ominous glow to the proceedings. Small figures add to the tension (though I'd nit and want them slightly further down in the frame - i.e. further away from the houses). The trees either edge of the shot add some pinning/stability to that horizon. I've not looked at the cropped version but I'd not change from the version you have presented here.

I think I might be a bit sad. My first thought was, is one of those people THAT lady?

I like the cropped image too, but it is a different picture.

It will be interesting to see John's comment as John loves suggestions about how to crop his pictures differently. I jest, I don't think he likes it ;-). I think it is the photographers choice to crop to get the image they want, different crops tend to dramatically alter the message of the image as they change the centre of interest.

This is almost an unreal sky and it is a powerful part of the composition. The trees on the left help with the environment and set the scene.

Thanks for your comments. I haven't done much with wider angle images until recently, so I can use all the help I can get on these!

Rex -- this is a different section of beach from the one where THAT lady was. I'll try to go back to Belleair one of these days and see if I can find her again for you. ;-)

My first thought was you had captured a forest fire roaring through, but then quickly realized that you had some super saturated colors for the sky. I keep moving between the three houses/three individuals and the texture and tonality of the sky. I find myself wondering, did those three notice and appreciate that beautiful sky on their walk back?
