No title needed, I think

Comments:
Well, I think a title is needed - names would be useful for a start! Apart from abstract photos, I find it frustrating at a gallery, for instance, to wonder where a photo was taken (quite often date is given but not place). Sometimes a title is irrelevant but any picture of place or person needs locating or naming - photography is about someone being at a place at a time.
Next point! It's interesting to compare skin tones using light some distance from a window with that of the recent discussion about Kate. Without wanting to get into technicalities, I presume that this was taken with a relatively fast film.
After all that, the composition of this plays the foreground portrait with the 'action' background very well. I suppose that it is the use of DOF that helps achieve it but the moment with the girl in the background is great.
John,
ISO 400 film. Neopan I think. Window over my left shoulder, helped by a big mirror to the far left. The child at the back has tanned skin. The child at the front is fair skinned.
The light tones from the scan were pegged to keep some feeling of detail in the white trousers and sheet. Most other tones fell right from there, and there is very little post processing.
A nice bit of ahh! An enchanting moment.
I could comment upon the disembodied foot but that would be churlish, so I won't mention it. :-)
Delightful moment you've captured, Colin. It works well to show the spontaneity of the girls without being overly "precious". I like the vertical format with the foreground child in sharp focus. The missing tooth is a bonus.
How I would like to experience that carefree feeling! It does bring a smile.
I'll second christina on the missing tooth. The sparkle in eyes is nice as well.
As a compositional note, I think a step to the side would have made this stronger by putting the two kids in a diagonal as opposed to vertical line. It looks a little stacked with the one right on top of the other. It's a beautiful photo despite this.
Nice interaction between the photographer and the girl, seems she knows she is being photographed, must have happened once before! Very different composition with the excess space at the top and not all of the young lady included below, almost as the photograph was of the top girl and suddenly some-else pooped into the picture.
Some delightful expressions and actions well caught. It does seem a little cramped for space though given the vertical alignment of the subjects. Perhaps the diagonal would open things up a little?
Thanks for the comments everybody.
Another step to the right and I'd have disappeared around the corner (L-shaped room). I did recompose to try and deal with the foot, and the stacking, but the children lost the spontaneity that makes this work.
The child at the front is Elinor (who named auspiciousdragon.net a couple of years ago) - and yes, I've photographed her before :-) The second child is Georgina who I see less often. One daughter each for Christian's two sisters.
