More Toys in Boots

Nishihara, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.

Comments:
I'm working backwards, so I'll pick up the 'more' reference later. Seen by itself, I'm not sure that the boots are large enough in the frame (although that might be less of a problem in a proper sized print). However, I like the crazy angles of the lines leading off to the right.

I don't mind the visual hook of finding the books after looking at this image for a while. But I do have some issues with the foreground stripe in the lower right taking you out of the image, not sure what it adds. Same for the lighlight wall on the left edge. When I crop these with my hand, I find this image more interesting to look at.

Doug - as soon as I posted this I finally saw that white line. Funny what you don't see when you focus solely on the subject!

Colin - I agree that this one is much better at a bigger size.

I'm not so sure that the white line (or the light wall on the left) need to be lost and when I cover them up the picture loses a bit of life. Otherwise I prefer this to the first boots. I'm afraid the stitch reference passed me by (still does!) and I have no idea who the people Matt refers to are. Here, I like all the urban and cultural references such as the sliding doors and the areas of glass. The boots are easily seen and the toys give some clue as to the nature of the occupants (I presume). The intimacy of house to street is striking - up the neat little ramp and up the stairs.

Despite their small size in this image, I find the subject boots, the shoes with them, and the stairs hold my attention.

I wonder if the toys in the boots are an identfier of whose are whose? Seems an odd thing to find two identical toys placed in pairs of boots in various places!

The white line -- I'm on the fence about it for the time being. I can't say that it distracted me all that much.

I think this works better than the last, although the boot/stitches gag does really come through at web sizes. It's the context that makes it work; stitches peeping out of boots that are peeping out from behind doors is just more interesting than stitches running wild in the streets.

For John:

Thanks Matt - maybe one day I'll see it! I gather it has an engineer's (aka Hollywood) ending.

"although the boot/stitches gag does really come through at web sizes"

That should have read doesn't come through at web sizes.

Although I saw the Boots & Stitches especially having been guided by the comments, when I sat to comment and studied the image I was struck by the 'slopes' to the curb.

Why are they there?

These images are a sort of visual feast, something to ponder upon, to surmise about, as someone said before me, eye food!

This really was a grab shot. They owner had just stepped out to put out their rubbish and I noticed the boots. Took a very quick shot before he came striding back in to the picture - may explain some of the weird parallels? Thanks for the feedback and after much closer review I'm keeping in the white line up front.
