marionette in Lower Marsh

Precursor to street theatre performance. Lower Marsh is one block South of Waterloo station.

Comments:
Cool composition. Nice use of action.

This looks like one of those 30mph public service ads.

I love the link between the child and the marionette.

There is much in this that, if taken singularly, one could pick at as being at fault. However, it all comes together very powerfully and the result is an extremely strong photograph with plenty to enjoy. What makes this work is all the eye contact and the marionette holds it all together. There is a very strong diagonal in the action from top right to bottom left and then the childs body position throws you back in to investigate more. Well seen and captured.

Doesn't that van driver know that there are puppets playing in the street?

My reaction is much the same as akikana's - there are things here which could stop this picture working, but they don't. It is interesting to reflect on why.

This image provides me with mixed emtions, is that little girl happy or in terror? The silhoute of the puppet master appears dark and threatening as to influencing my impression about the running girl. Lots of interesting & complex ambuguity, makes for a long look.

The girl looks quite happy to me -- I'm enjoying her exhuberance, which is a large part of this image's appeal. I love the puppet master's posture -- as if she is also a marrionette. I wish the van was not there, but as mentioned,, it all works anyway. Very fun image.

Thanks for comments - I'm still reflecting Colin!!

On the face of it the girl is happy but one never knows what spooks a child and a marionette that has been laid on the pavement and then gets up may have tipped the girl into more activity as she had just been standing for the the previous couple of minutes.

The van points up the competition for use of the street.
