Hanbury Street

Close to Brick Lane, an area now obviously in the process of deep change and already a destination for tour groups. I don't think that this particular street is on the main tour route but this girl has obviously found it. There's a new book out, reviewed last week: 'On Brick Lane' by Rachel Lichtenstein that traces the many changes in this district.

Comments:
Nice bag, again.

I'm not sure why this works, but it does. Perhaps it's the tilt?

My first thought was, 'that's a big camera'.

What is special about the wall such that it warrants a phot................hang on a minute, I don't think I should be asking that..............!

...and you can unlock it too!

:-)

At firist I did not understand what the lady was doing, so I was just studing the composition. The tilt is a bit unsettling. I am not relating well to his image, sorry.

I had the same initial reaction as Rex. And I still don't know what she's doing, but it does work for me anyway. Quite interesting graphically. The tilt gives it an odd feeling -- throws me a bit off balance, but then the ground and the straightness of the horizontal curb helps to offset that. Nice color.

Christina - I would have thought that you would have seen lots of this in Florida: she's taking a photo with a compact! Colour: quite often I take a photo just for the colour; I could never live by black and white alone.

I do see it now -- quite compact. And yes, that is something I see a lot of, especially at the beach. I really like to take photos of other people taking photos, particularly people taking photos of other people. Wonder why that amuses me so. I'll have to post one of those soon.

Me too. Must get my glasses checked :-)

This doesn't look like the Brick Lane that I remember.

I'm not sure this works, but you've captured a lot of the here-and-now within it. I think, though, that I need more context, or a set of photos, or something.

This works because the girl is slightly tilting leftwards and bringing the whole scene with her. I'm guessing she is Asian and given their fondness for shooting anything I see no problem with her taking a picture of some posters(?). Whilst travelling to the far flung islands of Japan recently I was stunned to see people taking pictures of the boat departure screen timetables. One for the album?

Back to this shot. Given the slope, though the girl is vertical enough to hold it all together perhaps a bollard further to the right may have balanced things out nicely. Great colours and well seen.

Thanks all - quite a spread of reactions! For me, it is a slice of London with the added attraction of colour and juxtaposition. I also like the (Japanese?) girl's stance - the leg formation of Asian women is different. The 'posters' didn't seem to make a lot of sense: I think that they are more of a style statement as much as advertising.
