Cycle Shop Kawabe

Nishihara, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.

Comments:
fun image with the old big wheeler in the upper left and the bikes in the lower left. Must have been an overcast day, as it appears kinda dull almost depressing.

Maybe because it's too close to Christina's image just below. Another one of those exhbiting carry-over contex issues:- )

Opps, I meant lower right corner for the bikes. sorry.

Such a shuttered shop but unprotected bikes.

Not quite enough in this one for me - unlike the superficially similar 'nail that sticks out' pic from May.

Is Bridgestone an American company? Did penny-farthings exist in Japan? Visually it looks good but I go along with Colin to a certain extent, in that once one has done bicycles and pull-down doors there is less to explore of the tucked-away corners of Tokyo. On the other hand, this exists in its own right because this is the space it occupies. One can't help liking it.

Hmm, I like this. It's spare, but there's something about the balance between the big-wheeler and the more modern bikes.

Yes, the bikes lead one's eye to the penny-farthing.

John, Bridgestone is definitely Japanese (can't answer the penny farthing question though). The largest tyre maker in the world - Wikipedia to the rescue as usual.

I've seen a Bridgestone motorcycle, but not bicycle.

Bridgestone seem to make bicycles HERE . I found it from the Bridgestone.com website.

This website is providing me with both a photographic and general knowledge experience.

I like the juxtaposition.

I've come back to this image several times now. I appreciate all the horizontal and vertical lines and then the bike tire circles with spokes creating lines on angles. Unfortunately, I think the large "Bridgestone" overpowers the more subtle niceties here.

I did not know Bridgestone made bicycles -- in the U.S. they are known for making tires.

Thanks for the comments. I've been out on holiday for a week so I have some catching up to do. I've shot this shop front a number of times (this is with the Rolleicord). I agree the shot is rather flat and I have better shots with better light but the bikes bottom right have not been lined up so well. It's close to where I live so I revisit every so often so I'll eventually get the image I'm after and can move on.
