Paper

Comments:
First of all, one has to erase any thought that this guy looks like Stalin (I imagine that the whole Peleponnese is full of big moustaches). There must be a sheet of glass in there but what makes the photo work is that it is not apparent so that the whole ensemble looks like a collage. It must be one of those dusty general stores that contain everything except what you need. So the colours of the loo-roll wrappers and the receding darkness of the interior added to the poster couldn't be designed better. I'm not sure whether the handle adds/detracts/is neutral. But an unusual visual treat.

I forgot to add: shouldn't we colour-coordinate our posts??!!

"shouldn't we colour-coordinate our posts??!!"

You've both managed to strike on very odd shades of purple. Interesting.

I like this a lot, but I'd be hard pressed to say why. I think John is on to something with his collage comment.

I think my purple is due to the colours in the poster fading at different rates in the sun. My host for the week took a similar image, his was better, I think!

That Stalin dude definitely needs to find a better hairdresser.

Working out what is in which plane is hard. The red stick helps a lot in this and thereby earns its keep.

I instantly liked this on first view -- maybe my penchant for colors, or maybe it is that dimensional collage effect mentioned. I have no instant Stalin associations that interfere with my feelings about it either.

After the immediate effect, a closer look reveals the toilet paper rolls, which I found amusing.

I'm familiar with this fading effect of four-color printing -- the yellow always goes first, leaving the magenta, cyan and black. It worked for you here!

Layer upon layer but it still comes across very flat. There are also three distinct areas of colour: the poster, the toilet rolls and the handle. Not sure they're all complementing each other but they add some additional interest. The ripped poster and the guy's stare add up to a sense of finality with the toilet rolls and handle at the ready to clear up any mess. An interesting shot.
