Home

Comments:
Home is where the tub of flowers is, huh?

This is a complex space and the photo puts that across, but the composition has too many loose edges for me. It seems to be fighting that complexity rather than making sense of it.

Fascinating. The first thing that struck me was the blackness on the building and veranda: that on the overhang is probably mould, that on the further part of the building seems to be cleared creeper, whilst that on the floor appears to be the result of over-enthusiastic watering or a very wet season. The dead grass on the top of the wall appears to contradict that: perhaps it died before the rains came or the hose was attached. At first it seems picturesque but then a more neglected look takes hold. The small pieces of blue are very important in giving an ambiguity to the mood. From the hillside down to the iron bridge across the street one is given a useful amount of context. An unusual picture that has a wealth of detail, such as openings, and leaves huge question marks hanging in the air.

This was close to my impression, too. I could imagine this place cleaned up and fixed up -- how deligtful it could be -- the flowers in the blue pot sort of help with that thinking. Then the reaity of the mildew, mold, and dead plants kick in -- making the open door more scary than enticing. Fascinating is right. And kind of creepy.

That's an interesting way to put it. I wonder if chopping it down to just the sidewalk, door and floor basket would make sense of it.

The whole picture looks like it is going to collapse to the right. My eye is lead to the distant hill and all the lines follow me there. It offers me some safty before I venture back in. Quite an interesting viewing experience. Beautiful colouring. The plant pot stage front is and enjoyable element.
