King Kong in Tokyo

Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

Comments:
I don't know if you are in to titles for photos, but would 'enigma' be a better one?

Indeed, he's an old star! Not quite Anthony Gormley but I like the way it is attached to the wall. Is this the entrance to a cinema called 'enigma'? Do the Japanese put Hollywood mementos all over the city? I like the composition and the dynamics of both the figure and the photo. Maybe it is a tiny bit uniformly silver all over: a slight darkening in the shaded areas on the body would help to make impact, but that is a minor quibble.

Colin: I did think of 'Old-star Enigma' as a title but I like to challenge with my work at times!

Back to light gray ? ;-)

More seriously I think a more dramatic contrast could bring us more in the movie atmosphere. Now of course, you maybe had no intention in that way, though some people obviously did.

Wonderfully clever -- love the angle. It is so easy to imagine that the building goes up nearly forever, almost like a well drawn cartoon. Then the bolted attachments bring it back to reality.

The tonal range works for me -- from the dark in the doorway to the light upper right corner. I do get the point about Kong's shadow, but, like the bolted attachment bars, his relatively flat color and regular texture brings me back to the reality of it as a molded inanimate object -- probably hollow and made of plastic.

This characteristic tonal range you produce does give your images a signature which is perhaps what you want. I have just applied an S curve and King Kong does jump out substantially more.

The image provides another insight into your world.

My world is so bright! Yeh, sorry about the tonal bit. Agree that a little more work would have been in order on this shot. I run some automation in my software and I should manually work these submissions thereafter.

This is one block off the main Ginza drag of designer boutiques and the like. The camera never lies... but in this case the cropping did. The bar's name is slightly longer but I hoped the angle would give me room to crop out the offending letters to add to the shot.

Thanks for the feedback and I'll work on the tones!
