Reddish Egret - White Morph/Canopy

These relatively rare egrets have a fascinating, way of fishing -- they run, dance, jump, and make a canopy from from their wings, as shown here -- putting on quite a show. I took this two weeks ago (Friday the 13th) -- close to my last shot of the day, right before the sun was gone.

Comments:
Just off for a 65km bike ride and just time to say 'Beautiful'.

This image is captured at just the right moment. The curves of the wings show their delicacy and provide an unusual compositional foil for the head of the bird.

Excellent..............

Superb. Great colour and detail. The arc of the wings continuing in to the tail feathers is very pleasing. This is so much more than a portrait of a bird at work. It has life and tension. Oh, and the eye... perfect.

An interesting mix of quiet beauty and violence. The bubbles make this complete for me - a full story.

I suppose the canopy is to reduce reflection and make targetting the fish easier. Does the bird know that it is providing an artistic echo of the beak with its wings?!!

There are not many worthwhile alternatives to beautiful. The abstraction from reality of the water and background takes one to some very unearthly place.

"quiet beauty and violence"

I think that sums this up nicely.
