Spring?

Comments:
Definitely a Spring feeling. The generous flow, the bright but still low sun and the awakening green all participate to it. I like the way the top half is framed by the two trees, with the slanted one pointing to the middle, where we see the faint group of trees in the background. The fence completes the pace in the image.
It might be spring but I much prefer #257 of 17 March on your site. There seems to be a direct invitation to compare the two. The composition with the tree in the middle is much more assured than this one. The two trees at either edge don't really frame anything significant enough to make up for cutting both of them quite severely and the leaning tree (however natural - and it doesn't lean as much with the different pov of the other) is aesthetically untidy - yes, nature can be untidy! I like #257 and am not enamoured of this one despite the spring light. You have captured the colour of the grass though, tending to the yellow before the summer sun reinvigorates it.
John #257 is a more obvious 'yes'....that's why I posted the more difficult one here :-)
As a matter of interest on the colour, I've added a lot of yellow and red to this shot. Whereas #257 is a reasonably accurate interpretation of the way it was (WhiBal card etc).
As John has brought it up, #257 is here: (link)
The trees right and left frame a rather nice tree in the background.
A couple of interesting parallels going on: the river and the grass;and the fence with the river bank. I sense that the river is flowing to the right which contrast well with the sloping of the smaller right hand tree. Overall, the background is holding much more of my interest than the river in front.
Is that a small white rabbit I see just to the right of the top of the second fence post from the left?
akikana: your white rabbit is a sheep! The couple of white flecks to the right of the frame are wool caught on the fence.
Yes, the water is flowing to the right. Trees often point upstream here, because the prevailing wind is from the sea.
This has a very nice feel to it, I like the trees and how they are lit -- especially the small leaning tree and the background trees. The bright swath of sunlit grass is inviting.
Thanks for making the comparison so easy with the link. My preference is this one, perhaps in part because of the warm up of color, but also I think the trees are more attractive here. I don't find it so "untidy", or maybe I just like more untidy -- since I find the leaning tree to be most interesting.
Christina tweaked my concience so I had another look at both pictures. I have to report that I haven't changed my mind! Apart from the disposition of the trees, I also like the background better, particularly the diagonal path on the right. The grass is more natural there as well - the colours being more Scottish! But, as I said above, the tweak to the colour is attractive and serves to point up how much the colour will change over the next couple of months.
While we're comparing images from this place -- I visited your site tonight, and I like #259 a lot -- possibly best. (though I reserve the right to change my mind) ;-)
#259 was just supposed to be a context shot!!!
It is also, sadly, not perfectly sharp - misfocus. However, as it is a back-yard photo, the chance will come again (in 2008.....)
