Brawn not Brains

This will require some context! For those who know anything about rugby the fact that this season saw Wales end up with the wooden spoon will be common knowledge. For those who have no idea about rugby you have to understand that it is accorded quasi-religious status in the Principality and to lose all games bar one (a sweet victory against the English!) is a disaster! The sponsor for the Welsh strip is the brewery Brains (I think the largest in the country) but they are not allowed by EU rules to display that name on the pitch so the Welsh run around in red with Brawn written on the front of their jersey. This was taken in the morning of the last defeat against France.

Comments:
Presumably the sticker top left means 'beer only'.

The lad looks thoroughly modern. Hearing and back problems by the time he is thirty, and hoodiedom next year.

And why is he looking left? The instruction clearly says 'look right'.

Thanks for the context -- I appreciated it.

The image is striking with "ordinary" real boy in front of large red-shirted iconic figures.

I like reflections and though the ones here are subtle compared to the main subjects, they are still quite interesting -- bit of a picture in a picture, and that adds to this image for me.

I think the boy and his glaze are a subject enough. I don't see much else in this photograph. As has been said he is very modern, contemporary. Interesting attitude, documentary, I like that kind of light. Great portrait.

He looks so small against those larger than life figures. Scared a bit too.

I'd be tempted to crop a bit of the top, but I'm afraid losing those jaw lines would ruin it.

OK, I'll bite: ...and I wish it did! Rain Beer that is.

At first it troubled me that the young gentlemen had covered up the B. Through additional viewing I think it takes the attention away from a question of intelligence to one of hope.

That's one strong furtive glance he's a giving so congratulations on the timing of the shutter release. Obviously some rampant lions are homing in to view?

The reflections in the window add a further dimension for exploring.

Thanks for the comments on this. Obviously, it wasn't too carefully composed and the direction of his gaze (notwithstanding the instruction to look right) was what I got rather than what I sought. Since posting this, I have read that spirit drinking is up in Manchester, sales of champagne have increased in Yorkshire whilst Wales sticks, rather unimaginatively, with lager!

How come there isn't a bi-lingual requirement for the shirts to say Brawn/Cnawd Beer/Cwrw?

An intimidating wall of red but lots of things to look at. He does look anxious.
