3/4 (03420026)

Comments:
I am not sure if I am going into dangerous waters here..............
but I do find this a sexy pose.
I am not sure what that says about the image or me as taken at face value with the brick wall, lighting etc I don't think that was the intent, but I could be wrong.
:-)
Although the intent wasn't overtly sexual, I can't say it wsn't a factor. Other frames from this series have a bit less attitude, which I think is the where most of the sexiness lies. I chose this one to post instead of one others, so it must work for me on some level.
BTW, we rented this apartment primarliy because of that brick wall and the big picture window which lights it. I thoughtt it would work as an ad hoc portrait studio.
I agree about the pose, and the wall etc. The lighting/toning on the face is excellent, but my eye keeps going to the super white on the left shoulder and arm, and once I get there it is so dominating I find it difficult to go back to looking at the whole person.
I like it very much -- the relationship between photographed and photographer shines through.
I agree that some of the whites are too bright and dominant, at least on this monitor. Details are lost in the shirt.
Do I have a fixation, or what? Whenever I look at your site, there are good informal pictures of her which I much prefer. I think that the formal poses are almost a barrier to getting a feel for the person. I like the 3/4 cut but am not so happy with the studiedly casual thumb hooked in pocket. On a nit-picking scale, the shadow thrown by the shirt at the neck doesn't help - one also wonders why it is relatively subdued given the brightness of the shirt.
But as Christina notes there is a rapport, albeit with some just visible caveats!
Point well taken regarding the highlights on the shirt. It took some work in PS just to get them down to that. There's detail there, but the tonal range is exceeding what I can fit into the pic without messing with the skin tones. I'll probably take another crack at scanning this.
John E. I'll take your preference for the informal images as a compliment; I've got a lot more practice with the informal images, so I'd hope they were more compelling!
A more formal approach to portraiture is a fairly recent interest, so I've still got a lot to learn. In this case, I think a bit of bounce opposite from the window would have taken care of the collar shadow and evened out the exposure across the shirt. Next time.
A relaxed pose which shines through and the hands look natural (why is it that hands and art just don't get along?). The shirt tone plays well with the skin toning. The cock of the head and Kate's right eye in the shadow adds a little mystery to proceedings. Well executed both the picture and choice of apartment.
