Self Portrait

Nishihara, Tokyo.
Comments:
I am sure that this is a carpark but just for the record my first thought was why is the swimming pool empty!
I will return :-)
"why is the swimming pool empty"
It must be the 1.5M marking, as if that's a depth indicator. The slope of the floor and the mirror are also reminiscent of swimming pools.
This whole shot seems to balance on the point of the cone bissecting the mirror. It's an odd effect but intriguing.
As with many of you photos, I find myself wanting more contrast, and I'm not entirely sure why. I'm beginnning to think that these perhaps need a border to seperate them from falling into the gray background.
Not a swimming pool shot for me although I like the references that have been quoted. For me, it is a rather dreamy, almost abstract shot, which you have spoiled by sticking your legs into it! The lines of shadows and the soft tonal transition are very attractive. The cones spell out context but look perfectly alien as well. I think I am serious in wanting something more blank reflected in the window although the scale of a body is quite useful even if it humanises the scene more than I want in this particular case. Still, no big deal either way. No, no more contrast in this shot.
As a carpark it is strange that it is empty. The human element is fun and the cones break up the lines of the wall.
I'm definitely in the swimming pool camp here. I also get this odd sensation that I'm looking downwards into the pool (the shadows in the top third do that). The window/legs re-orientate me, then I work out it is a car park. Then I see the shadow bottom left, revert to the shadows top left and I'm falling into the pool again.
I see that you've followed my trend in photographing in a car park but excluding the cars though :-)
Marvellous.
An empty car park, who can imagine such a thing? I' finding this image quite hard to relate to or, perhaps instead, get much from. The shadows on the wall and the "text" hold my attention more than other elements.
Most certainly a car park (for three cars only). However thank-you for opening up the possibility of this being a swimming pool. Shot only for the play of slicing my head in the portrait versus the 1.5m height restriction sign. I'm going through a bit of a self-portrait phase at present.
Matt, spent last night tweaking with the settings in Vuescan. Expect a little more contrast going forward. Though I like the 'smooth' look of a lot of my shots I really am wanting just a little more punch in some of the shots.
Colin - been shooting some car shots espeically with you in mind.
Thanks for the feedback
