Flag Pole

Comments:
If I go on looking at this for too long, I'll fall over backwards!
Smart colours.
I'm falling out of this shot to the left.
Is this with the 14 - 54 or a wider angle? After the initial reaction of reaching out to avoid falling over and then appreciating the wide angle appearance, the first thinking reaction was how like a sail the flagpole looks; as though one was standing at the base of a yacht's mast, jib to the left and mainsail to the right. The flag even resembles a burgee.
Pointing a camera up like this is very tiring but maybe you were using a tripod.
A fascinating combination of shapes and negative space and, in particular, good composition with the break in the building frontage. But what holds me is the 'sail', its varnish reflecting the blue of the sky.
Even though I know the camera is looking up, I feel as if I'm looking down at this. Falling in as opposed to falling over. It's a bewildering shot.
The bit of red makes the blue sky pop!
The 'winch' for the flag provided the tripod. I used a 2 second delay to remove shake after pushing the shutter release. This meant that I would look up, wait for a puff of wind to blow the flag, then look at the image and find that in the 2 seconds the wind had died!
So many straight lines are offset by a 'melting' soft sky. I'm having issues with the building on top though - it cramps the picture a little. I don't fall left or right but straight down the middle. I think I see a glint of highlight running right to the flag..may be worth a little rubbing with a major paintshop tool to bring it out some more.
When you take pictures of obvious structures you always try to be different. I did some water reflections of the Japanese flag but not with much great success. This angle seems so obvious but yet I can't recollect seeing a flagpole taken from such vantage point. I just need a little more clarity in the flag so I can try and work out whose it is!
Vertigo, I get a similar feeling to others. Over backwards…and forwards. Just a sense of falling somewhere.
There’s some trickery here somewhere with the scale of things. That building looks distinctly fragile compared to that pole!
One of those images that has me going whoa!
