heron on the Teifi

This is not an image that supports the most famous phrase Dylan Thomas used about herons. Type 'Dylan Thomas heron october' into Google and you will find the phrase "heron priested shore".

after surgery

I know that this is a photographic site but it is Colin's creation and, as designed, has a small and fairly intimate membership. Having read his latest medical update for Christian on their blog it would be nice to feel that, as a group, we can express support for them as she undergoes surgery. Let us hope that today's operation was successful and allows the interrupted treatment to continue in due course.

Self portrait

I know some of you have read the thread on my blog about art and communication. Coincidentally today, I came across a good example of what I was talking about. This picture could be loaded with all sorts of meaning. Especially if I told you that I took in on the day that my wife was told that her health was deteriorating and more chemo was in order.

I can imagine people making assumptions about my state of mind, or my mental health. The symbolism is almost too obvious. The head disassociated from the body. The graphic sign.

What was actually going through my mind when I took this, was 'glad I'm back at the car - it's a bit cold. Oh look I've got a 37th frame on the camera, what can I......hey that's kind of neat. Click'.

St Dogmaels gallery

The title could equally well have been grandchildren. They are outside a small gallery in a small village near Cardigan, taken after a day on the beach (we were looking after them for 9 days!). It is just a little bit more than a run-of-the mill snapshot and the inadvertent combination of colours is quite fun. It also seems to mark the departure of summer here.

Admin notice

We've had one or two problems with posting comments. They seem to get stuck at half posted (appearing in the comments box, but not on the site pages and with no notification email sent). It always seems to affect Rex first, but I'm pretty sure that is coincidence! Anyway, the comments always come through when I force a republish, so if anybody finds that their comments get stuck in limbo, please just email me.

I'm not going to pursue this fault with Blogger as there is a major revision to the Blogger software in the pipeline. It rather looks to me as if the Blogger software/servers didn't scale very well and when Google bought them they underestimated the size of the job. General reliability seems to be improving and I'll take a look at the revised version when it is publically available before making any choices about whether to find a different way of managing the site.

Both Michael and John L have dropped our recently because of other commitments. I'll be asking Bruce for his nominee to keep the sequence going in due course, but in the meantime if anybody has a strong suggestion for an additional member to fill the vacancy, please contact me.

A Cut above the Rest

This field had lots of photographers in it. The farmer should have been there with a collecting tin.

Night (02740017)

I can't decide if this works or if it's junk. I like the lines of the railing and the car moving into the figure, but I'm afraid the big ball of light ruins it. Thoughts appreciated.

BTW, all suitable apologies to those whose photographs I missed in the last week. I just got back from a week in Tokyo, where I had a chance to meet up wit Guy. He's an excellent host. Pictures will follow in about a week.
