A Bug?

Kyobashi, Tokyo.
Comments:
The juxtaposition of the unearthly 'thing' with the ethereal reflections of the ordinary 'bits' of the gallery in the marble base is magic.
It was a good choice to leave the topmost part of the sculpture out as it makes one see an overall picture rather than just the object. I imagine that the installation is supposed to be a witty take on wearing smart boots but then I might be missing some deeper meaning. The lower half is subtle but doesn't make its mark visually; rather, it is like a faint decorative frieze. The main attraction, apart from the coherence of the composition, is the soft toning.
This reminds me of those petrified bodies one sees at Pompeii. The base is very ash like in texture, though the reflections pull me away from that thought somewhat.
A bug? A petrified bug in ash?
What a hoot!
Contrary to John's comment, I think it is the lower half which makes this so witty. Without the reflection of the cone and the street markings this would have tended more strongly to be 'just a picture of the sculpture'.
The target and script on the right work to give this scale, the reflections give it location, the tones give it beauty and the composition gives it wit. Marvellous.
This is the base of a much bigger piece of sculpture: it's a giraffe. I initially was trying to work to two 'balls' in with the target in the background. Once I saw the scan it took on a different meaning altogether. The character in the background is pronounced 'ha'.
Thanks for the comments.
