The Morning Newspaper

Yoyogi-Uehara, Tokyo.

Comments:
All those diagonals make me wonder, what's out of frame to the upper left? Excellent.

...more wall and possibly a window? Is it a new fashion to photograph ten feet to the right of one's subject? But what I see here is well composed (the use of the diagonals, as opposed to peering to the left). Do I also see an interesting method of constructing a sliding door with a detent in the protruding door guard? And maybe I also see contrasting use of material with the unfinished doorstep blending in well with the remainder of the external decoration. I am dubious about saying that I can see a newspaper in the door just in case that is not the point.

Get that trip hazard off the pavement/sidewalk!

An area prone to flooding perhaps? A photo which creates questions and engages. Probably just a mundane street, but different enough and interestingly abstracted.

As noticed by John it was the sliding door that first grabbed my attention. It slides because openning out puts it at risk from passing traffic and oppening in wastes too much space. From this little snippet of information I get a feel for the place and the pressures of living there. (2+2=5?)

I also guess that the width of the path puts it in a narrow street where one normally walks down the road.

As others have said, this raises lots of questions. Rex, I think, nails the feeling. There's a commonality with this door and those around here (the paper half through the letter box) but there's also a strong alien feeling to it. Does the wooden door slide under the stone slab or does the stone slab slide over the wooden door.......I think we know the answer but for some reason the question won't go away.

Matt - John was correct in his guess.

John - Good and correct guess. Not sure if I'm starting a new fashion but I do tend to include a lot of blank canvas in some of my work. The result of looking at too many Japanese woodblock prints.

Auspicious - another correct guess. This road is at the bottom of many steep hills.

rex - again, a correct guess. This road is wide enough to fit a single car down.

Thanks for all the comments and feedback.
