Her Hands (03090028)

Comments:
Nothing to do with the forthcoming mid-term elections I presume? Is that, Her Hands in the same vein as 'Him' (el señor in Spanish)? Is she praying? Photographically, there isn't anything in the rest of the room to support the large amount of unused space. Leaving aside the subject matter, the emergence of the hands from bottom left is too mannered. Too much like a lotus flower turned 45 degrees.

I'm not reacting to this shot at all - which means I end up looking at details (like the black triangle at the top) which aren't really important.

Fair enough. I think I though the interplay of foreground and background elements was interesting, but I guess not.

I think there is no obvious link between the hands nor a juxtaposition. I keep trying to make sense of the background and my attention leaves the hands.

The hands are a very strong element in this photograph so although I do leave them I'm always soon back. Strong in spirituality and I'm half expecting a hint of incense.

ps. Cool phone?

"ps. Cool phone?"

Yeah, my dad likes old fashioned phones; we stayed on rotary phones until the phone company quit offering the service.

I suppose the hands do look like she is praying. Even if this photo fails, it's useful to see how differently people react to it.

I think the phone would make the picture. Alas, the DOF lets you down just a little. Perhaps some strategic dodging and burning in the general area of the phone could make its appearence that much stronger and thus complete the link between it and the expectant hands. Lose everything above the bottom edge of the shelf(?) bracket. Needs a little work but you have a 'slow-burner' on the stove with this one.
