Inverness

Comments:
Strong on distillation and composition, but a bit like a wine with no lingering aftertaste: once one has appreciated the juxtaposition is it a picture that would last? As a testament to the Council's efforts yes, as a forceful graphic yes but it wouldn't be my keepsake from the Highlands!

Was Ness made to walk the plank here?!

Is that a footprint I see?

I like the incongruity of the sign with nowhere to walk plus the possible literalism given the name.

Last week I took a picture of double yellow lines on a road that was under water, similar thoughts.

Odd. It didn't occur to me that this sign could relate to the water. I just imagined it to be the name of the street running along side the body of water. Where the photographer is standing, in effect.

JohnE: no not a keepsake of the Highlands (but, hey this was a big day out in the city. Street signs are a novelty), and not a picture to linger over, but it served other purposes - which were to raise a smile and break a month's absence from taking pictures.

JohnJo: of course, your literal interpretation is the correct one.

Kind of creepy. I like the tonality, and the wave running straight the middle of the photo, but I keep wanting to see this composed vertically. A vertical shot, with the sign at the bottom of the frame and the wave in the same place would have made a stronger connection between the sign and the water, but perhaps that isn't what you intended.

matt~: yes, a vertical shot would have worked better, but sadly the reality was that the water wasn't wide enough to support it. This isn't the famous loch, but the downstream river in the middle of the city. I had to wait for the ducks to get out of the way!

You should have included the ducks - they could have been walking the walk!

I suppose I can't blame you for having to work within reality!
