continuum 2

The centre of the old city in Bratislava.

Comments:
A WiFi hot spot?

Because it is (nearly) full frontal I have an expectation of things being square.

Haha. Sooner or later someone will come along and unchain those people. Well seen.

Hmm, I missed the chain at first. I think this pic is begging to be cropped to a more rectangular aspect ratio. The foreground space detracts from the composition.

Cropped? Or maybe wider? Those triangles need to come to their conclusion.

The thought that struck me when I saw this photo was the conversation we had been having about photographing places that we knew versus places that we new to us. I bet these seats form and reform on any dry day. If Bratislava were home, I think that this might be somewhere that you could photograph and rephotograph for months.

Touche! However, I don't buy into your point totally, mainly in line with the quote I gave from Glen Erler on my 'wooded hillside' in August about something never being the same again. No the problem here is with execution: I was there and could have done it slightly better. A crop in frame or later would probably be the answer.

The point, though, is not just about a line of laptops but to juxtapose the old Hapsburg buildings with the ways of modern life. Here is an old town centre (not much more than from Trafalgar Square to the end of the Strand) that survived the neglect of the years from 1947 - 1989 and is now trying to redefine itself.

I didn't see this as a juxtaposition because the building still looks to me like a standard old town building.

Is a subtle juxtaposition an oxymoron? Probably not looking at the definition but the subtlety of the juxtaposition allowed it to escape my attention.

Close to an oxymoron but juxtaposition is a flexible concept. Once one chooses to juxtapose though, no doubt subtlety becomes (relatively) irrelevant.

I haven't seen anything like this West of Offa's Dyke!

I think the juxtoposition, and the chain, don't necessarily signify at this size. A slightly larger size migh reveal more.
