Viking camp

Comments:
Did they have this sort of paint a thousand years ago?!! The colours fairly explode off the screen. Nicely controlled shadows with (for us) an unusually blue sky. You've hit on a good composition although that strange bit of shiny metal sits a bit uneasily there. Imagine being a Saxon kid sitting on the beach looking up at one of these! I like the rakish look.

John, the metal is a lamp. I was frustrated by it and have a shot or two without it in but this turned out, I think, to be the most interesting of the compositions. It's a shame, I think, but there it is.

An interesting variant on the 'colourful boat in sunshine' theme, but other than commenting on the colours I can't really think of much to say about this. Perhaps others will be more insightful.

I like the colours, shapes and repeats of the curves but I am struggling a bit as the image comes over as a bit ordinary. I think the ordinariness does come from that lamp and indistinguishable bit on the right.

So I'll bend a self-imposed rule and suggest that for me the image becomes a dynamic abstract if cropped below the shield on the left and above the shield lamp on the right. However that just turns it into what I'd have taken had I been there and bends my rule.

"However that just turns it into what I'd have taken had I been there and bends my rule."

I'd have been tempted to crop this differently as well. In my case, I'd have shot vertically, but I suspect that I'd still have been frustrated by that bit of metal.

In cases like this, I often have to remind myself to take the picture that's available instead of trying to force reallity to fit the ideal image I see in my head.

I'd perhaps try a square crop and lose the right third as it does little for me. The wisp of cloud in the left top corner is just big enough to break up that chunk of sky. I think the top tip of the boat should have been included at the expense of losing the lamp bottom right. Beautiful simple and strong colours. A great use of colour film.

really like bold color contrasts here. the POV works well although I would like compare with a version with included top tip to decide what works better.
couldn't you dismantle the lamp ;) *lol*?
anyway like those colorful images, so this one.
