Many, too many

I thought long and hard about showing this due to it being "a bit out there" and of a somewhat personal nature. However, when deciding what to post this week it kept insisting.
Comments:
This is out of the ordinary.
The 'inversion' adds to an ethereal feel, another contribution to the 'out of the ordinary'
Makes me think.............
I can see why it kept "insisting" as there is a compelling graphical quality to the photo. I'm not so sure about the overall impact/effect. The good things: the clarity, detail, contrast and imaginative compilation. The bits that leave me wondering: the similarity to an X-ray and the (possible) lack of focus to the composition. Why I should be concerned about it looking like an X-ray I do not know and that can probably be dismissed. The more difficult one for me is composition: has this got structure and meaning? Rex has a point about it making one think but I am not sure that my thought processes are being very constructive! I think that I find it most compelling as an allegory: the fingers as people, in the main milling around in an incoherent mass, each doing his/her own thing. That then makes a virtue of there being no discernible focus.
It is indeed insistent; how's that for an alliterative sentence?
What am I looking at here? I want to know, but I'm not sure if knowing will ruin the mystery of this.
Many hands make light work.
Insistent? Compelling, certainly (is that the same thing?).
I'm not sure about the significance of your title. To me, this is just the right number.
As matt~ says, more information might be a bad thing. This stands, by itself, as an excellent photo.
I'm really enjoying this and I can't put my finger on why. Can I borrow one of yours for inspiration?
I think it's the healthy x-ray quality of the shot. Everything looks in good working order, though perhaps middle bottom thumb looks a tad inflamed.
Highly unusual.
