Family Photo (Harris)

Sound of Taransay. 3.4 km from parking the car beside the beach to touching the sound.

Comments:
All you need is a little giraffe in the corner. It certinly shows the expanse of sand and the use of Nora sets the scale, although I would have positioned her less central.

I'm glad to see there are footprints in the sand in this photo!

I love the quality of light on those Western Isles beaches. Now, where is that ferry timetable?

I don't think that I can get beyond the envy stage! A good depiction of the scale without a panorama and a wall size print. I'm not sure what John L wants to do with Nora (unless his remark is a bit of a dig) as she seems about as far from the centre as one can reasonably get. What has she got in front of her knees?

Nora is sitting on an old buoy. We wore our wellies because the sunset reconnoitre of the beach had shown that it was necessary to cross deep 'streams'. Nora is concealing her coat behind the buoy because we are not allowed coats in holiday pictures, even when it is snowing!

If you look at this on Google maps the image is taken with the tide out and it shows how big it is and also the width of the 'streams'. Oh yes and there is quicksand!

The place name is Luskentyre.

This reminds me of one of the color shots from Wingorand 64. The one with the family car parked on the sand dunes. Your shot is far more assymetrical in composition, but there's a certain balance here between the figure, the foreground, the horizon and the hills in the distance. Very interesting.

Oddly, my interest lies entirely in the "dottyness" and flatness of the surface. I'm always drawn back there. So flat, so well put down, so evenly sprinkled. I could lose the sky, the person, the hills completely.

Dotty and creamy, like a chocolate sprinkled cappuccino. But look! Who’s been walking in my beverage? It must be a beach or a desert.

When I get round to it I'll see what I have of this beach. I have a series from Embleton Beach where I got fascinated by features in the sand. I think I got similarly excited about this one.

I like the word dotty where it means ‘with dots’

I find the remoteness of this picture most enchanting. I see the sand as more choco-chip ice cream.
