Brave New Tree

Yoyogi, Tokyo. From seed to sapling to plank.
Comments:
I think the right reaction to this is 'ho ho ho'. A series perhaps. Spring, summer, autumn, and winter in the timber yard.
Well seen and created story. I doubt whether I would have seen this although I got the theme before I read your comment.
Pity it's not Korea and then it could be 'Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring' - an excellent film if you haven't seen it. But I must admit my first reaction was more along the lines of being impressed by nature's resilience. That was followed by the observation that the sapling is not the sort of tree that would be used for planks. Lastly the thought that Japan imports a lot of tropical hardwood although that used to be largely for plywood and chipboard in construction work. Maybe this timber is indigenous to the country. What would be interesting would be a time lapse film showing the rate of throughput.
Quietly fascinating.
I like the repetition of all those vertical lines, but I wish the tree stood out more from the lumber. Interesting photo.
"... wish the tree stood out more from the lumber". Half of me thought yes the other half thought that the blending could add to the fact of its survival in such a dangerous environment.
All the shots I post here are/will be first cuts - i.e. only levels and curves applied. With this one I'll definitely have to get to work on dodging and burning around the tree.
Thanks for the feedback.
Following on the theme of making the tree stand out a bit more..........is there one of the channels which differentiates the tree better?
I like the juxtaposition and the implied irony.
Well seen

It's one of things I'd want to play with in print; perhaps I'd produce a couple of version and live with them for a while. It doesn't always turn out that what we want from a picture turns out to be most satisfying. This might be one of those cases.
This could be a humorous shot, a story of defiance or the depiction of fear and a desire to escape. I saw it as the latter. If trees could think……..
Well seen indeed. I might well have walked on by.
