Roch Castle

Taken some time ago with a lowish resolution compact (Canon S20). This is Roch Castle in Pembrokeshire, west Wales which we rented for a reunion gathering. And yes, it has a dungeon which we made full use of.
Comments:
There is a great feeling of remoteness here and I like the treatment given to the surround. The stark trees add to a feeling of isolation. I bet it was great in the dungeon. No doubt it has a ghost. Oh to spend a night there.
Quite a lot of 'noir' here in a well-composed shot that makes this castle seem more imposing than I imagine it is in reality (it's only 1hr 20 mins away but it is a part of Pembrokeshire I don't know). The clouds and sky in your conversion balance out the descending clumps of shrubs well.
We shall have to find this castle! Although, it is not that we are spoilt for choice around us.
You've made a lot of the material here. I guess that in reality with soft colours this place isn't as impressive as you've made it look. The tones and the sky are a good treatment and create an impact probably not discernible at the time.
Having said that though, this one doesn't ring my bells. It neither makes me want to visit nor to stay away.
sure this wouldn't have the impact it has if it was a color image. the whole compo seems well tought out. the castle is framed by trees and the grass and path seems to lead in a curve to the main gate.
a good example that the camera takes the photo but the photographer makes the image.
Not sure about this. Technically no fault. The composition is what troubles me. I love diagonals (the road and hedgerow) and textures (the sky) but the castle is much too central. I either want to see it at the end of the road or the beginning. As it is, there is not too much that holds my interest either side of it. Perhaps if more work (dodging and burning) was applied in the sky it would work a little better with me.
