Blogger has been refusing new posts for most of the last 24 hours, so if you have encountered any problems that was the cause. They now have some shorter scheduled outages over the next couple of days - presumably to fix whatever the underlying problem was. Ironically they couldn't post updates to their own 'status' blog for some time as it is a blogger blog.

Because I could see the problem getting out of hand, I did a quick back-up. Just in case, and all that. That meant I watched the files crawl across the internet and I had time to make a few observations. The smallest picture file on the server is 34kb and the largest is 630kb. Most are in the 50kb to 150kb range, which is great.

Not everybody is including their own name in the file names. There have been some surprisingly close near-duplicates. I did it once, so I know how easy it is to do. But please, attention everybody.

Somebody (maybe more than one person - I didn't look at the details) has also tripped over the mistake of using the little picture icon rather than the page with the up-arrow to load images. I know this because blogger assigns a new file name and sends the picture to a different folder. Don't forget, if you do this blogger reformats and resizes your picture.

On a less administrative note, my original intention was to limit the 'Stills' group to 10 members. Now we are 7 and things seem to be humming along nicely I'm thinking of slowing down the rate of growth. 10 seems to me to be the maximum that this format will cope with. I was thinking that when we get to 8, I will hold it there for a bit. Any comments - either way - or thoughts on other matters gratefully received. Comment here, or email me.
