Time's Arrow

With apologies to Martin Amis (and the second law of thermodynamics). Without any particular desire to capture any one person I shot about four or five photos to get the line right and only afterwards discovered that I had captured the cyclist leaving 'Ojala' ('would that it were...' in Spanish) in three of the shots. The girl featured twice and the businessman twice. The pigeons were everywhere.
Redone!!
Comments:
how did u do it? using a tripod and several shots? had to look twice to notice the people are multiplied. great effect. love it.
I love the sense of captured time in this image because it is done in a novel way.
Because the pigeons are not individually identifiable they provide a continuity across the time frames.
This is a thought provoking image.
Thanks Michael and Rex. I didn't have a tripod in Madrid (rarely do!). When I saw the same people in different shots I selected them very roughly, including some sharp edge like a building and brought them all into the chosen master background. The most difficult bit was fitting in behind the wheels of the bicycle. I have one other 'accidental' shot and Jana tells me I musn't get into the habit of doing it! It's not often I attempt a quad tone either but it suits the texture of the concrete holders.
yes also didn't carry often a tripod although sometimes I wish I would...
u did a great pp job here with. its only noticable when viewed very mindfully (and after knowing what u did ;)
I like what you have achieved here. At first glance there are just a lot of people but you slowly begin to see that they are made up of the same image. It has been well done. I think it is the duplicated pigeon that gives it away. I do find the bit of writing, on the right, a bit distracting, especially as it is against a white background.
I said quadtone earlier but it is, in fact, a duotone.
John, you have raised an interesting point - not sure whether I am suffering from amnesia! I looked back over the original three pictures and there are no pigeons flying low down, which means that I must have put them there but I don't remember doing it nor is it something that I am likely to have done. Strange. Anyway, well spotted.
I like the way that time is all mixed up. The woman has gone from right to left and the cyclist from left to right, but not during the same time.
Very well done and lots of fun.
Black magic! I cannot, for the life of me, work out how the two pairs got duplicated: there is no flying pigeon below the level of the top tub in the original shots and my jiggery-pokery would not have resulted in any vertical shift. So, not only a time shift but gravitational pull as well!
It was too much!! As I didn't have the original PSD made in January, I have shot the offending pigeons and asked the council to repaint the concrete holders! It still remains a mystery as to why those pigeons had caused such a problem to air traffic control.
Agreed. Bring back the lower pigeons!
Actually, presumably given that this is a generated, rather than taken, image you could go on playing with this forever. Now, if you just........
