Street Pattern

+

Saw the pattern and waited for the people.

Comments:
Your waiting was worth it.

The curves, patterns and contrasts have an added touch of poignancy with the departing couple.

Lovers tiff?

I know the yellow lines are a fact of life but...............

It is good to be able to get higher up in a city (something I rarely achieve) and one ofter wonders whether town planners and landscape architects ever look at the effect of paving and spaces between buildings and roads from the air. In some ways this captures the accidental nature of the shapes: the dark tree holder being balanced by the road bottom left. I would never think, before planting a tree, what the span of its shadow would be through the day, year on year. But it is a space well served by the materials and their colours and shows, what is for me, the value of photography in bringing out combinations that would never otherwise be appreciated (except by a very few).

One wonders why there are so few people: how does one find such a deserted spot in a town or city? It was good to include the two people (whether strangers or acquainted) but it would have been an interesting photo even without them by virtue of all the shapes, lines and curves - and the reality.

Seeing your comment John made me look at the image again and now the significance of the shadows in the composition have really struck me.

It is a pity about the yellow lines. Not the lines themselves, but their yellowness. My eye keeps going back to them and away from the rest of your composition.

I like the top half of the shot better than the whole. The pavers have a colour lacking from those lower down and the tree shadow is great. I like the headless shadow marching out of the frame and the curve of fencing on the right.

To me the composition drains away to the bottom right which pulls away from the elements that I like.

Was this a public vantage point? I can't quite work out where you would have been. Too high for a bridge or flyover?

I was in an office sitting at my desk, on the 13th floor.

13th floor? seems its not bad luck for you on the 13th floor. good shot. worth waiting for the people. great colors and pattern. no problem with the yellow lines. not bold enough to disturb me.
